In the center of Murmansk area on coast of lake Imandra there is a beried in verdure city of Monchegorsk, a pearl of the Kola territory. It has received the name from Lappish word "Moncha" that means "beautiful". Natives of the Kola ground have appeared here in II - I millenia up to AD. Two a millenium of an isolated life have ended at the end of the first millenium AD when Russian and Finnish field men here began to penetrate.
Till our time were kept in the woods surrounding city, seydy - stones of the unusual form to which worshipped and did sacrifices ancient people.
The city of Monchegorsk is rich with the sports traditions. Such winter kinds of sports, as mountain skiing and ski races are especially popular here. At the order of sportsmen there are lines in vicinities of Monchegorsk - high-speed descent(release), a slalom, ski lines to 2, 3, 5, 10 and 15 km.
Every year win the increasing popularity new kinds of sports, competitions on which pass in the first spring months in Monchegorsk - winter surfing and kiting. Despite of short polar summer, here on a regular basis pass sailing regattas. At this time tens snow-white sails cover a water smooth surface of lake Imandra.
